With calls of Trump-Out, Wenger-Out and the iPhone X-pensive clogging up our news feeds it's easy to forget there is a world outside of our Western bubble. It could be conceived as naive to actively avoid depressing news stories, especially when you're in a good mood. However, a recent Sky News report opened my eyes to a horrifying issue going on right now that I had no idea about.
Until recently my biggest concern was whether to leave the house with a coat and risk cooking myself by mid-afternoon, or alternatively leave without one and be soaked to-the-bone by the time I got home - seriously what is up with our weather - blissfully unaware of a humanitarian crisis happening halfway across the globe. No, not Irma! Although that's bad too. I'm talking about the crisis in Myanmar.
In recent weeks it is estimated that over 300,000 majority-Muslim, Rohingya refugees have attempted to flee from persecution in Myanmar - also known as Burma - into neighbouring Bangladesh.
The apparent 'ethnic cleansing' of the Rohingya population of the Rhakine area, that borders Bangladesh, by the primarily Buddhist, Burmese army is believed to have started following an attack on Burmese police posts, on August 25, by Rohingya insurgents.
Further problems have risen from the fact that the Bangladeshi government cannot accept more refugees in an already overpopulated country; leaving many Rohingya villagers caught between a country that cannot accept them and one that no longer wants them.
A temporary ceasefire has been reported, but it looks like this deeply saddening conflict is unlikely to be resolved any time soon.
